Attempt to enter Bangabhaban by climbing over security barricades

Dhaka: A group of protesters tried to enter Bangabhaban, the residence of President Md. Shahabuddin, by climbing over the security barricades. At that time, the protesters clashed with the police members in charge of Bangabhaban security. Later, the army and PGR members took positions in front of the barricades.

The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday (October 22). At that time, the protesters raised several slogans, including fake ones.

On the ground, it was seen that some students who were protesting in front of Bangabhaban demanding the removal of President Md. Shahabuddin suddenly tried to climb over the security barricades and enter. At that time, the protesters were stopped by members of the law enforcement agencies assigned to security.

Leaders and activists of several organizations took positions in front of Bangabhaban since Tuesday afternoon. The protesters include leaders and activists of Inqilab Manch, Raktim July'24, 36 July Parishad, Ziaur Rahman Samaj Kalyan Parishad, and Anti-Fascist Chhatra-Janata Manch.

During the sit-in, the protesters were seen raising various slogans against the President. After the evening, a section of the protesters tried to break the barricade in front of Bangabhaban and move forward, but the police lathicharged them. Tear gas was also seen being thrown at them. Several protesters were injured in this. Later, the protesters attacked the police. Army members are trying to calm them down.

Meanwhile, the Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Information Advisor Nahid Islam, and IGP Md. Mainul Islam met with Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed amid the demand for the resignation of President Md. Sahabuddin.

In a recent interview with a media outlet, the President said that he had heard that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had resigned, but he did not have any documentary evidence or documents in this regard. The President said, "Despite many attempts (to collect the resignation letter), I have failed. Maybe she didn't have time.
