Police baton-charge, water cannons in Ebtedaya teachers' protest

The protest of independent Ebtedaya madrasa teachers, who took a stand demanding job nationalization, was dispersed by baton-charge, water cannons, sound grenades and tear gas shells.

The incident took place at Shahbagh intersection on Sunday (January 26). As of writing this report, both sides are still facing each other.

In the light of the recommendation of the Dhaka University Institute of Education and Research, the Independent Ebtedaya Madrasa Teachers' Unity Alliance took a stand in front of the National Press Club in the morning with a six-point demand, including the announcement of the nationalization of independent Ebtedaya madrasas like primary schools.

They also announced a march and a memorandum from the sit-in program towards the office of the chief adviser. Then, when they reached Shahbagh police station from the National Press Club through Dhaka University, the police fired water cannons. Then, two sound grenades were thrown.
