Special instructions to airports and airlines regarding HMPV
Dhaka: The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Authority has issued special instructions to protect against the Human Metapneumonia Virus (HMPV), which has spread panic in neighboring countries including China.
On Monday (January 13), the airport's executive director, Qamrul Islam, wrote a letter to all airlines and airport-related parties in the country regarding the instructions.
The special instructions of the airport authority said that recently, as per the instructions of the Disease Control Branch of the Directorate General of Health Services, everyone related to the airport has been asked to take precautionary measures regarding HMPV. However, there is nothing to panic about the matter for now. All passengers, staff and visitors of the airport have been encouraged to wear masks and use hand sanitizers. If anyone develops symptoms of HMPV such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, they should immediately inform the airport's health service.
It said that domestic and foreign airlines operating flights to the country's airports should also take precautionary measures when bringing passengers from their respective locations and from countries where there are HMPV patients. If anyone on the plane shows symptoms of HMPV such as fever and cough, they should immediately inform the airport health service.
Airline crew and passengers have been instructed to know the health instructions on how to handle HMPV patients on the flight. In addition, the letter has asked to follow 7 instructions issued by the Directorate General of Health.
The instructions of the Directorate General of Health to prevent infection are-
1. Use a mask to protect yourself from winter respiratory diseases.
2. Cover your nose and mouth with your arm/tissue when sneezing/coughing.
3. Immediately throw the used tissue in a covered garbage bin and wash your hands with hand sanitizer or soap and water.
4. Avoid close contact with people who are sick and maintain a distance of at least 3 feet.
5. Wash your hands frequently (for at least 20 seconds) with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
7. If you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, stay home until you are well. Contact your nearest hospital if necessary.
