Dismissed SIs continue fasting unto death

Dhaka: Dismissed trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th batch of the police are still on fast unto death demanding their reinstatement.

They were seen on hunger strike till 10 pm on Monday (January 13).

Meanwhile, a delegation of the dismissed employees has gone to meet the central leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement to resolve the ongoing crisis.

The protesters in the delegation said, "My brothers and sisters are on hunger strike to death. They are all still stationed in front of Osmany Udyan. This hunger strike will continue until the problem is resolved from the top. We are disappointed with the administration's words. They said it will work, we will do it. They do not say anything about when and how they will work. This cannot be assured. Our program is ongoing and will continue."

They also said, "Many of our brothers and sisters have fallen ill due to the severe winter. We hope the administration will take quick action on this issue."

Earlier, after meeting with Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, they began a fasting unto death along with a sit-in program at 3:30 pm.
