President lied with an ulterior motive: Zainul Abedin

Advocate Zainul Abedin, a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum commented that President Md. Sahabuddin made contradictory statements on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation letter with an ulterior motive.

He said this in response to a question from journalists in front of the media room of the Supreme Court Annex building on Monday (October 21) at noon.

Advocate Zainul Abedin said that the President said in his address to the nation that Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post of Prime Minister. His speech was heard by people all over the country. The President himself administered the oath to the Chief Advisor and other advisers. Now he is saying that there is no documentary proof of Sheikh Hasina's resignation. I would say, the President said this with an ulterior motive two months after forming the government. The president lied.

He said legality was sought from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court before the formation of the Dr. Yunus-led interim government. Therefore, if the escaped Sheikh Hasina does not resign, there is no legitimacy crisis for this government.

In response to another question, Zainul Abedin said that since he spoke untruth from the post of President, the people of the country think that he should resign.

To Motiur Rahman Chowdhury, Chief Editor of Daily Manabzamin President Md. Sahabuddin said, I have failed despite many attempts (to collect the resignation letter). She might not have time.

He also said that he heard that Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post of Prime Minister. But he has no documentary proof of this.
