Passports of 75 people including Sheikh Hasina cancelled
The government has cancelled the passports of 75 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on charges of involvement in the July massacre.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder gave this information at a press briefing on contemporary issues at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday (January 7) afternoon.
In addition, the passports of 22 people have been cancelled on charges of involvement in the disappearance incident.
The Deputy Press Secretary said, ‘Once the e-passport is ready, expatriate Bangladeshis will also receive SMS on their mobile phones from now on. The government hopes that this initiative will help reduce the suffering of expatriates.’
He also said, ‘The government is working sincerely to make passport offices broker-free. Broker-dealing circles have formed around some shops next to the office. From now on, arrangements will be made to apply for passports by appointing agents.’
Azad Majumder, stating that the printing of students’ books will be completed within the current month, said, ‘This time many did not receive the books on time, for which the government is sincerely sorry. There is some delay as all the books are being printed in the country.’
