Border clash stops after 5 hours, situation calms down

Dhaka: A chase and counter -chase incident took place between local citizens of the two countries on the Kiranganj border of Binodpur union in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. Although it initially started at the Kiranganj border, it spread to an area of about 2 kilometers up to the Chauka border around 3 pm. After that, the clash stopped after about 5 hours around 4 pm, but the situation is calm.

The incident started at around 11 am on January 18 (Saturday). Several Bangladeshi citizens were injured in the incident. However, the exact number of injured is not yet known.

Mashiur Rahman, a resident of Binodpur Malopara village of Binodpur union, told Barta24.com, I myself was hit by stones thrown by Indians. My back is swollen. Farooq (32), son of my neighbor Sirajul, got a stone in one of his eyes. One of his eyes may be damaged. Several others were injured whose names I do not know. He also said that a large amount of crop fields have been destroyed on the Bangladesh border.

Describing the incident, he said, "They (Indian nationals) entered our border and started throwing bricks and stones at us. We also chased them. After receiving the news, people from the surrounding areas started coming. The BSF itself instigated this incident. If our country's trees had not been cut, none of this would have happened."

As of the last news, members of the border guard forces of the two countries are working to bring the situation under control. The BSF and BGB have taken their respective citizens to a safe distance from the border. The border guard forces of both countries have also deployed additional members.

Abdur Rahman, a local resident of the Kiranganj border in Binodpur Union, told Barta24.com on his mobile phone that in the morning, the BSF came to the border and started cutting mango trees belonging to Bangladeshi citizens. Later, the Bangladeshis went and protested. After that, hundreds of Indian people came with domestic weapons in their hands and chased them. The throwing of bricks and stones started. Sometimes the BSF is throwing tear gas and stun grenades at us.

Md. Badshah, UP member of Ward No. 9 of Binodpur Union in the Chowka border area, told Barta24.com on mobile phone, "They (Indian citizens) entered Bangladesh and chased us. They had sticks and local weapons in their hands. Later, we also chased them. Then the BSF fired tear gas shells at us. When I was there, they fired 9 tear gas shells.
