Those who run the media by stealing news should be stopped, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government.

He said these things at a discussion titled 'Media Reform Proposal: Citizen Thought' under the banner of 'We want a Fascism-Free Media' at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday (January 17).

In this context, the Press Secretary said, our copyright enforcement is very important. All journalists need to speak out strongly on this issue. You worked hard for two months to write a news story, and another news portal copied it in a second. You took the most beautiful picture in the world, and a big newspaper published it without your permission. You need to give copyright enforcement because this is your source of income.

He also said, those who steal should be stopped. The Press Council talks a lot, the Dhaka Reporters Unity talks a lot, and the NOAB talks a lot. These institutions should stop those who steal like this. Due to this theft, your salary is decreasing. Everyone steals because there is no copyright enforcement in our country.

Addressing journalists, Shafiqul Alam said, if the workers at our garment center can fight so hard for their salary, why can't you? No matter which media outlet you run, you have to hire good journalists and pay them minimum wages.

He also said, we are going to reform the media because the media has been used by Sheikh Hasina's autocratic government for the last 15 years. They had the ability to control all the media outlets in Bangladesh. One phone call from DJIF, one phone call from NSI, one phone call from DG, one phone call from the minister was enough. What was called ICT was not justice. It was a terrible injustice.

Other speakers at the discussion included Plaban Tariq, spokesperson of the Fascist-Free Media, convener Joynal Abedin Shishir, Abbas Uddin Nayan, lawyer Molla Faruk Ehsan, and Uttara University lecturer Mahbub Alam. 

Dhaka University Student Union President Meghmalla Basu's Facebook post 'The only way is red terrorism' was widely condemned by ordinary students.

On Saturday (January 18), around 12:30 am, ordinary students from Dhaka University's Hall Para took out a protest march and held a protest rally at Raju sculpture. Later, they threw shoes at Siraj Sikder's graffiti on the wall next to Dhaka University's Central Library and erased the graffiti.

DU student Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad said that since 1992, the Dhaka University students' platform wants to sabotage the DUCSU elections by declaring red terrorism many times. Those notorious red terrorists have declared violence.

He also said that the notorious red terrorist Meghmalla Basu must be arrested within 24 hours. We demand the government to investigate whether Meghmalla Basu was involved in the attack the day after yesterday.

Another student AB Zubair said, after the attack on NCTB, a group is trying to save the real criminals and frame others. Those who were incited by the attack are again declaring red terrorism. In this way, publicly declaring red terrorism is a manifestation of militancy. It must be brought under the law as soon as possible.

Mahin Sarkar said, there is an ideological conflict between us who believe in the 24 coup and the red terrorists.

He also said, this red terrorism also contributed to the closure of DUCSU in 1992. Those who declared red terrorism must be brought under the law within 24 hours.

A fire has broken out in a tannery godown in Hazaribagh Bazar.

The incident took place on Friday (January 17) afternoon.

Fire Service Media Officer Shahjahan Sikder confirmed the matter.

He said that a fire broke out in a leather godown on the fourth floor of a seven-story building in the Tannery Kachcha Bazar area of Hazaribagh. Two units of the Fire Service are working to control the fire. He also said that four more units are on their way to the scene.

The purpose will be hindered if we cannot prepare the July Declaration in unity, said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

He said this at an all-party meeting held at the Foreign Service Academy on Thursday (January 16) afternoon.

The Chief Adviser said, when we work alone, then we see that we are alone, there is no one around you. Then we feel a little weak. When we all work together again, courage increases in our minds, we are united. We were born in unity. Our strength is in unity. We have to use this strength to prepare the July Declaration. Otherwise, the purpose will be hindered.

The head of the interim government said, if we cannot do it in unity, the purpose will be hindered. There is no need. If we do it through unity, everyone will have courage. Everyone will think that we are still awake. We have not become dull. Our feelings have not become dull yet, they are still strong. We are united as a nation.

Mentioning the importance of the declaration, he said, "It is good for the country if we can come before the country unanimously. It is also good internationally. Everyone will see that there have been many ups and downs in this nation but it does not budge. It is steadfast, it is strong. I want to tell the whole world, I want to tell the countrymen."
