Order to complete investigation against 8 police officers within a month
The tribunal has ordered to complete the investigation against eight officers, including the former police chief and former director general of NTMC, within a month in the case filed on charges of crimes against humanity in the July-August massacre.
At the same time, the court has ordered to keep them in jail in the tribunal case. The next hearing of the case has been fixed for December 19.
A three-member tribunal led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder gave the order on Wednesday (November 20).
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam heard the petition in the court.
Eight officers, including former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and former army officer Ziaul Ahsan, were arrested on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in the July-August massacre. They were produced before the court in separate prison vans on Wednesday morning.
These eight officers are - former police chief (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former NTMC Director General (retired) Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former Dhaka District Police Superintendent Md. Abdullah Al Kafi, former Mirpur DC Md. Jasim Uddin Molla, former Dhaka Additional Superintendent (Savar Circle) Md. Shahidur Islam, former Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hasan, former Gulshan Police Station OC Md. Mazharul Haque and former DB Dhaka North Inspector Md. Arafat Hossain.
