The newly appointed six-member search committee to form the Election Commission (EC) will pay a courtesy call on President Md. Shahabuddin on Wednesday (November 20) evening.
The President's Press Secretary Md. Joynal Abedin said that the members of the newly appointed search committee will meet the President at 6:15 pm today.
A search committee has been formed comprising the following persons to recommend the names of qualified persons as per the law for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners as per Section 3 of the 'Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2022'.
The search committee will be chaired by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
The other members of the search committee for the EC restructuring are Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Auditor General and Comptroller of Bangladesh, Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, and former Professor of the Department of International Relations of Dhaka University, Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and former Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Professor Dr. Jinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.
A notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid regarding the search committee was published on October 31, 2024.
The notification states that the search committee will carry out its duties and procedures in accordance with the 'Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commission Appointment Act 2022'.
In that case, the Cabinet Division will provide necessary secretarial support to the search committee in carrying out its work.
