As part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, 110 more Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons today. 30 of them are children. A human rights organization that works with Palestinian prisoners reported this information.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said in a statement that 110 Palestinian prisoners will be released on Thursday (January 30). This is the third prisoner exchange under the ceasefire agreement that began on January 19.

The organization said that the prisoners are expected to arrive in the Radana area of Ramallah by noon.

Releasing a list of the prisoners, the organization said that 30 of them are under the age of 18, 32 are sentenced to life imprisonment and another 48 are in prison for various terms. 20 of the freed prisoners will be sent to exile.

In the previous two prisoner swaps, 290 prisoners were released in exchange for the release of seven Israeli hostages. Almost all of them were Palestinians. However, one was Jordanian.

Meanwhile, Hamas will release five Thai citizens in exchange for three Israeli hostages on Thursday. The three Israeli hostages are Arbel Yehud, Agam Berger and Gadi Mozes. However, the identities of the five Thai citizens are not yet known.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that Hamas will release three Israeli men in the fourth prisoner swap on Saturday.

A stampede at the Kumbha Mela, a large gathering of Hindus in India's Uttar Pradesh state, has left 40 people dead, three police sources told Reuters.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning, Reuters reported.

Reuters reported that the millennia-old Kumbha Mela is held at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers, where thousands of people bathe together in the hope of gaining merit. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered to bathe in the holy water on the most auspicious day of the six-week festival. Around 40 bodies were brought to the morgue of the nearby Moti Lal Nehru Medical College Hospital after the stampede.

However, there has been no official statement from the government on the matter.

A source said, "More bodies are coming. So far, we have received around 40 bodies here. We are in the process of handing them over to the families one by one."

The news agency spoke to several eyewitnesses. They said that lakhs of people had gathered to bathe in the holy water. Suddenly, there was a huge jolt and people fell on top of each other. This led to the death due to suffocation.

A woman named Jagwanti Devi (40), who was sitting in an ambulance carrying the body of a relative, said, "We were pushing each other and people fell on top of each other. Later, there was a tug-of-war to lift her. My mother fell down and then my sister-in-law. People fell on them when she was sitting in the ambulance carrying the bodies of her relatives.

An official at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj said that several injured people have been brought here. Most of them have died. Those who died were suffering from diseases like heart attack or diabetes.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without mentioning the death toll given by local officials, expressed his condolences to the bereaved people in the incident. He said that all kinds of help would be provided to the victims.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has recently announced the suspension of various US aid programs for the repatriation of the Rohingya.

Development partners and other concerned people said that the US President's decision will have an adverse impact on Bangladesh and the whole world. There may also be extreme uncertainty about the future of various US cooperation projects in Bangladesh.

The website of the US international agency USAID stated that the United States has maintained a strong friendship with Bangladesh since its independence. The United States recognizes Bangladesh as a strategic partner in South Asia. The US partnership with Bangladesh is also determined by common interests.

According to USAID, USAID's program in Bangladesh is the largest in Asia. This program includes the world's most important food security and health programs, as well as strategically important democracy and good governance, basic education, and environmental issues. The United States oversees a large-scale humanitarian assistance program in Bangladesh to address the Rohingya crisis. USAID has been a long-standing partner in Bangladesh's progress towards becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2031.

The United States has been providing the most financial assistance to deal with the Rohingya crisis. Since August 2017, the United States has provided more than 250 crore dollars in assistance. Of this, 21 crore dollars is for the Rohingya and local communities in Bangladesh.

In addition to USAID, the United States provides assistance to Bangladesh through the Departments of State, Agriculture, Justice, Energy, and the Federal Trade Commission. In 2023, the United States provided 49 crore dollars (about Tk. 6000 crore) in assistance to Bangladesh. The partial amount of assistance for 2024 is also almost the same.

According to the executive order published on the website of the White House, the Office of the President of the United States, the United States is now going to reevaluate and implement its foreign assistance. The executive order states that the United States' foreign aid-supported industries and bureaucracy are not consistent with American interests and, in many cases, are contrary to American values. They disrupt world peace.

Regarding the policy, Trump's executive order states that the United States will no longer provide any assistance abroad that is inconsistent with the foreign policy of the President of the United States. U.S. development assistance abroad will be suspended for 90 days to assess the effectiveness and consistency of current U.S. foreign assistance programs.

According to Trump's executive order, the U.S. President's directive to suspend U.S. development assistance abroad for 90 days is mandatory for all relevant agencies to immediately implement. The heads of departments and agencies responsible for reviewing each foreign assistance program will determine the next steps in accordance with the Secretary of State's direction, in consultation with the Director of the Office of Budget and Management. After the review, the Secretary of State will decide whether to continue, modify, or terminate foreign assistance programs.

Bangladesh is closely monitoring President Trump's policies and implementation. The United States has withdrawn from the World Health Organization (WHO) under the suspension of foreign assistance. The United States has been providing significant funding to the WHO. The country's withdrawal from the WHO is likely to weaken the organization. This will have an impact on Bangladesh and the world.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department released a statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio yesterday evening. It said that President Trump has given clear instructions to prioritize national interests in U.S. foreign policy. The US Secretary of State said, ‘We must answer three simple questions for every dollar spent, every fund spent, and every policy pursued. They are—does it (aid, policy) make America safer? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?’ Marco Rubio said, ‘We will build a more innovative, agile, and focused State Department to advance our national interests. This will require shifting some priorities, de-emphasizing some issues, and eliminating some practices.’

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has suspended all its activities and projects in Bangladesh. The country's State Department has suspended almost all such assistance to Bangladesh, including around the world, immediately after US President Donald Trump issued an executive order.

The executive order has instructed the suspension of work on various projects run by USAID in various countries and additional costs under their contracts. It has also called for the suspension of new assistance.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a cable to all US diplomatic posts on Friday, which threatened billions of dollars in funding for the State Department and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) global programs.

Diplomatic circles believe that the issuance of Trump's executive order signals a reorientation of 'foreign aid policy' in the United States.

The USAID announcement specifically states that all ongoing USAID Award DEIA projects will be suspended due to the executive order.

Meanwhile, Trump claimed in the executive order that the US foreign assistance system and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases are contrary to American values.

However, an official said that the US interests are linked to the global health-related assistance programs targeted for suspension. These programs have received bipartisan support.
