Baharul Alam has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
This was announced by Local Government and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday (November 20) evening.
He said that Sheikh Shahzad Ali has been appointed as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
Baharul Alam has served at the headquarters, including as the head of the Special Branch (SB) of the police. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a police liaison officer in the Peacekeeping Department of the United Nations Headquarters. In 2015, he worked as a senior police adviser to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. Before that, he served in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. This officer, who was denied promotion twice, retired in 2020.
