‘Will advisers teach politicians what to say?’

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, Will advisors teach wise politicians what to talk about, which to support and which not?

He said these things to reporters after performing the prayer at Banani graveyard on the 10th death anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko on Friday (January 24) at 10 am.

Rizvi said, we have been on the streets for years, overcoming all the incidents and standing on the streets. Will advisers come and teach wise politicians what to support and which not, and what to talk about?

Regarding the increase in the price of daily necessities, Rizvi said, the price of daily necessities has increased from Tk. 2 to Tk. 10 per kg. Can’t the government’s blindness to price increases be criticized? If the government's administration does not work impartially, can it not be criticized? Then why fear that 1/11 will be repeated.

He said, starting from the Zia family and the entire people of the country, so much sacrifice, self-sacrifice, so much blood has been shed just to breathe a little free. As a result, on August 5, we saw a victory that shook Bangladesh, shook the earth. As a result of this movement, an interim government was formed. All pro-democracy parties have supported this government.

Why so much hesitation, why so much delay regarding free elections? Rizvi said, the people's expectation is that this government will fulfill its duties impartially. It will take all steps to strengthen democracy. When I hear reforms first, then elections, it seems like an echo of Sheikh Hasina's motto - development first, then democracy. This does not benefit any advisor. The democracy, for which the people of this country have waited, fought, shed blood and sacrificed their lives for 16 years. Why so much hesitation, why so much delay regarding that free election? This is the people's question.

He said, all our trust has been placed in you. Then why so much delay? Why will Sheikh Hasina's words be repeated - first reforms, then elections. We do not want to hear this. Reform is an ongoing process; reforms can be carried out for ages. For this, why should the process of democracy, the flow of democracy, is stopped? He said, with the death of Arafat Rahman Koko, a shadow of grief fell across Bangladesh. Lakhs of people in this country cried after seeing the head of a dead child in the lap of its mother. Due to Sheikh Hasina's barbarity and cruelty, no proper formalities could be observed to bury him.
