‘Not only should Chhatra League be banned, they should be brought under the law’

BNP Standing Committee Member Begum Selima Rahman has demanded that Chhatra League not only be banned but they should be brought under the law.
She said, Chhatra League has machetes, pistols, and weapons. They will attack wherever they want. Therefore, they should be brought under the law. The most important thing is that Sheikh Hasina should be brought under the law first and she should also be tried.
She made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thursday (October 24). The discussion meeting titled ‘All conspiratorial false cases against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and future statesman Tarique Rahman should be cancelled by executive order’ was organized by the National Democratic Party.
Selima Rahman said, it is possible to withdraw the cases of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, including all opposition party leaders and activists, through an executive order, but the interim government is not doing that. We are demanding the immediate withdrawal of the cases.
She said, "I have received some relief after the student-public movement. Are we at ease? It is true that we have emerged from a crisis, but we are still standing on the verge of exhaustion. The common people are not getting any relief today. The rise in commodity prices, the office siege program with demands, the friends of the fallen dictatorship are trying to destabilize the country as planned. The government should not be able to manage the country well, not be able to hold a good election.
Commenting that the fallen dictatorship government has created the ongoing crisis, she said, the friends of the fallen government are still alive in many places; they are trying to create an unstable environment. The dream of the student-public movement was to give people their rights back, their right to vote and basic rights. The syndicate of commodity prices must be broken.
Addressing the interim government, Selima Rahman said, "Those in the interim government are very good people. They are working, we are supporting them. But they have to understand that what is needed first must be done first." Not all reforms are possible. Only political parties elected by the people can run the country well.
Saluting the leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination movement, this BNP policymaker said, "You have to remember that you cannot destabilize the country by bringing any kind of political crisis. If your goal is for everyone to get their rights back, then you have to consult with the leaders and professionals of all political parties and try to move the country forward nicely."
Under the chairmanship of Nationalist Democratic Party Chairman SM Shahadat Hossain, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Zainul Abdin Faruk, Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance Coordinator and NPP Chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad also spoke.
