Five people were killed and two were injured today in a train and microbus collision at the Munshibazar Kafura rail crossing in Gerda union of Faridpur Sadar upazila. The injured were rescued and admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Locals said that although the train honks every day when passing the rail crossing, it did not honk today. On that day, the train named Modhumoti Express was going from Khulna to Dhaka via Faridpur. On the other hand, the microbus was coming from Gerda towards Munshibazar. The microbus collided with the train while crossing the rail crossing at around 12 noon. Three people died on the spot. The remaining two were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where they were declared dead.

Locals alleged that accidents often occur at the Kafura rail crossing as there is no gateman or rail crossing bar. Security should be provided here as soon as possible. Otherwise, such accidents will continue to occur.

Faridpur Fire Service Senior Station Officer Nuruzzaman said, we received the news around 12:30 pm. We immediately arrived and started rescue operations. The microbus fell into a pond next to the railway line at least 100 feet away from the train crossing after being hit by a train. The microbus has been recovered from the pond. No one was found inside the vehicle or in the pond.

Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hasan Molla said, five people were killed in this tragic accident. Two of them were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital with injuries. He said, "Unfortunately, such an accident occurred because there was no gateman at this important crossing. We have initially learned that the deceased are residents of Narayanganj. Efforts are being made to contact their families. The bodies have been recovered from the scene and taken to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue."
