UK minister Tulip Siddique has called for an investigation after allegations surfaced that she received a flat as a gift from close associates of the ousted Awami League government in Bangladesh. Tulip sent a letter to the UK Prime Minister's Advisor (Independent Advisor on Ministerial Standards) Laurie Magnus on Monday, calling for an investigation into the allegations. According to BBC, she wrote in her defense letter, "I have been the subject of media coverage for the past few weeks. Some of my financial affairs and my family's involvement with the former Awami League government in Bangladesh have come to light, many of which are incorrect. I have done nothing wrong, that is clear. However, for the avoidance of doubt, I would like you to independently bring the truth to the fore about these matters." 

Laurie Magnus looks after the criteria required to become a minister as an advisor. Magnus will now investigate whether Tulip has violated any rules as a minister. Tulip Siddique is currently the UK's Economic Secretary for the Treasury. She is responsible for stopping corruption in the country's financial sector. Tulip is the daughter of Sheikh Rehana, the sister of Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in the student-public uprising.

A spokesman for UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the BBC that the investigation report will be published. However, he did not specify a deadline for completing the investigation process.

Recently, controversy arose over several flats owned by Tulip Siddique in the UK capital London. According to the Financial Times published on Friday, Tulip owns a flat near London's King's Cross area. The flat was given to her free of charge in 2004 by a real estate businessman named Abdul Motalif. He was associated with the ousted Awami League leaders.

Later, another UK-based media outlet reported that a lawyer named Moin Ghani had given Tulip Siddique's sister another flat in London's Hampstead area free of charge. He represented the ousted Awami League government. Tulip once lived in that flat in Hampstead. Apart from this, there have been reports of Tulip and her family living in several flats associated with the Awami League. Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating Tulip, her aunt Sheikh Hasina, mother Sheikh Rehana and Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed on charges of irregularities and corruption worth Tk. 80,000 crore in 9 projects in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh was shaken by another earthquake after four days. The earthquake was felt at 7:05 am on Tuesday. However, there was no initial report of damage.

Volcano Discovery said that the earthquake was felt in Nepal, India, Bhutan and China in addition to Bangladesh. Its origin is Tibet.

Earlier, on January 3, an earthquake was felt in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka and Sylhet.

The special plane of the Emir of Qatar, the Air Ambulance, has arrived in Dhaka to take BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment.

The plane landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:40 pm on Monday (January 6).

BNP Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter.

It is to be noted that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will go to London on Tuesday (January 7) for advanced treatment.

Earlier, she made this announcement after meeting top BNP leaders at Firoza on Sunday (January 5). At the same time, she urged everyone to remain united in order to maintain unity.

Adviser Mahfuz Alam has listed 14 priority tasks for the interim government at the current time.

On Monday (January 6), Adviser Mahfuz Alam published the list of tasks through a post on his verified Facebook profile.

The list mentions a total of 14 priority tasks based on two processes related to the end of the fascist regime and the judicial system, including assistance to the injured and martyrs of the July coup.

In terms of primary priorities, he mentioned

    1. Preparation of a list of July martyrs and injured, providing treatment. Financial assistance and long-term

    2. rehabilitation of the injured and martyrs' family members.

    3. Trial of the July genocide and conducting appropriate cases and fair investigation activities for that purpose.

    4. Trial of the disappearances, murders and economic looting of the last 16 years. Returning of the looted money.

    5. Ensuring the safety of people's lives and property and keeping the prices of goods affordable.

    6. Ensuring realistic reforms of various state institutions based on national consensus.

    7. Reorganizing all public sectors including education, public health, information technology and housing

    8. Ensuring equality of opportunity in jobs and entrepreneurship for the young generation. Increasing state incentives.

    9. Adopting economic programs that are favorable to the people, life, nature and environment instead of the so-called          'development economy'.

   10. Ensuring transparency, accountability and public service in all government activities. Uniting the forces of the                   uprising in favor of the abolition of the fascist system and a new political settlement.

     In addition, in terms of political priorities, he mentioned,

    11. Upholding national interests in all areas and giving importance to the issues of the people, life, nature and                        environment of Bangladesh beyond big corporations and foreign interests

   12. Maintaining consensus with political parties on national priorities, namely national security, stability and foreign               relations, and using the power of the people to block the return of the fascist system and murderers.

   13. Keeping the people united in favor of reforms and leaving the process of transferring power, namely the electoral             system, to the people's verdict subject to reforms.

   14. Making the people of the whole country, especially the younger generation, politically educated and aware (about             responsibilities and rights).
