Tulip Siddique has resigned from the post of Economic Affairs Minister of the UK Ministry of Finance in the face of allegations of various irregularities, corruption and financial scams, including receiving a flat as a gift from Sfeikh Hasina's close friend, threatening a journalist, and embezzling money from the Rooppur nuclear power plant.

On Tuesday (January 14), she submitted her resignation to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. There, Tulip also mentioned the allegations against her and the investigation by the Prime Minister's independent consultant. Claiming complete innocence, she said that she resigned so that there would be no disruption to the work of the government.

In her resignation letter, she wrote, 'Dear Prime Minister, thank you for the trust you have shown in me in recent weeks. I am grateful to Sir Laurie Magnus, your independent adviser to Ministerial Standards, for conducting a prompt and thorough investigation, which has enabled me to provide detailed information on my current and past financial and lifestyle matters, at my request.’

‘As you know, Sir Laurie has confirmed that I have not breached the ministerial code. He has said that he has found no evidence of any irregularities in the properties I own or have lived in. He has also made no suggestion that my wealth was acquired in any other way than lawful.’

Tulip added, ‘My family relationships are well known. When I became a minister, I gave the government full information about my family relationships. After discussions with officials, I have been advised to disclose the location of my family relationships. Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is my aunt. I can assure you that I have acted with transparency and in accordance with the advice of officials in these matters.’

‘However, I feel that if I continue as a minister, the work of the government may be disrupted. "I will always have confidence in the Labor government. It is with these considerations in mind that I have decided to resign."

Thank you for the opportunity to serve in your government. I will continue to support this government as a backbencher MP."
