The Bangladesh team for the ICC Champions Trophy was announced today, Sunday, with Nazmul Hossain Shanto as the captain.
Shakib Al Hasan is not in this 15-member team. It was already rumored that he would not be in the Champions Trophy team. The star cricketer was found to have a defect in his bowling action last December. Since then, he has been banned from bowling. He took the bowling action test for the second time in Chennai, India. He could not pass it there. That is why the BCB had to think without him because the BCB was not only interested in playing batter Shakib.
The ICC, the highest cricket body, had set a deadline of January 12 to submit the Champions Trophy squad. That is why the BCB announced Bangladesh's squad for the mega event at a press conference this afternoon.
Shariful Islam has been dropped from this squad along with Liton Das.
As usual, Nazmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh in this 8-team competition. The Champions Trophy will begin on February 19. The final will be held on March 9. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
Bangladesh will start the tournament with a match against India on February 20. Bangladesh will play New Zealand on February 25 and Pakistan on February 27 at Rawalpindi Stadium.
