Didn't talk to Foreign Secretary on Sheikh Hasina issue: Prannoy Verma

Foreign Secretary Md. Jasimuddin held a meeting with Prannoy Verma, High Commissioner of India appointed in Dhaka. Prannoy Verma said that there was no discussion about former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in the meeting.

After the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (October 20) afternoon, the High Commissioner of India said that today's meeting is part of the regular meeting on our relations. We discussed the security and development of the two countries. Our relationship is positive. We believe that our relationship will contribute to the welfare of the people of both countries.

In response to another question, Prannoy Verma said that there was no specific discussion on the Sheikh Hasina issue.

He said that India is dependent on Bangladesh and Bangladesh is dependent on India. The relationship of interdependence needs to be taken further.

Regarding the joint consultative meeting between Bangladesh and India, the High Commissioner said, we want to hold Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) soon.

Prannoy Verma, the country's High Commissioner assigned to Bangladesh, said that the process of granting travel visas to India is not normal. Prannoy Verma said that travel visas to India are not normal for Bangladeshis as the manpower is still low. However, emergency visas for medical and educational purposes are limited.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jasimuddin about the meeting said that the two countries are working to strengthen and normalize the relationship of mutual dependence.

India has stopped issuing travel visas to Bangladeshi citizens for two and a half months. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, the country's visa application centers in Bangladesh were announced to be closed indefinitely citing the unstable situation.
