Interim government has banned Chhatra League as a terrorist organization.
The Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday (October 23) night
Senior Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen said in the written declaration, in various times after the independence of Bangladesh, especially during the last 15 years of dictatorial regime, Bangladesh Chhatra League, the fraternal organization of Awami League, has been subjected to various acts including murder, torture, oppression centered on public rooms, trading of seats in dormitories, tendering, rape and sexual harassment was involved in activities disturbing public security and related documentary information was published in all the major media of the country and the guilt of the leaders and workers of the organization was also proved in court in some terrorist incidents.
The notification also said that during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 15, the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League attacked the protesting students and the general public with frenzied and reckless armed attacks and killed hundreds of innocent students and people. The proof of which is with the government. Even after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the Bangladesh Chhatra League has been involved in conspiratorial activities against the state.
In such a situation, the government, under the authority given in sub-section (1) of section 18 of the "Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009", banned Bangladesh Awami League's fraternal organization "Bangladesh Chhatra League". Along with that, the student organization named "Bangladesh Chhatra League" has been listed as a prohibited entity in schedule-2 of the law, the notification said.
The notification also said that it will come into effect immediately.
