Germany will help Bangladesh in its democratic transition. Chancellor Olaf Scholz made the promise during a meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
The meeting between the German Chancellor and the Chief Adviser was held on the sidelines of the forum meeting on Tuesday (January 21).
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues such as the causes of the July uprising, Bangladesh's relations with neighboring countries, the Rohingya crisis and the security situation in Myanmar.
The Chief Adviser also said that he is trying to establish a consensus among political parties on the reform reports submitted by the six commissions. If a consensus is established, the political parties will sign the July Charter, which will maintain the democratic spirit of the student-led mass uprising in July and August.
Dr. Yunus called for strengthening business relations between the two countries. He also requested that a German business delegation be sent to Dhaka to explore the business opportunities in Bangladesh.
At the same time, he sought Scholz's help in creating a safe zone for the Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine State under the auspices of the United Nations. The German Chancellor promised Bangladesh full cooperation in these matters.
