Dhaka: Regarding former OC Shah Alam, who fled from the capital's Uttara Purba police station after being arrested and brought back from Kushtia, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said, the police did not release former OC Shah Alam. There is no question of releasing him. If the police had released him, they would have released him in Kushtia. Not after bringing him to Dhaka. The two people involved in the incident have been dismissed for negligence of duty.

'It has not been possible to catch him yet. He has most likely fled to India or a neighboring country,' said the DMP Commissioner.

He said this in response to a question at a view-sharing meeting held with the leaders of the newly elected executive committee of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) on Tuesday (January 21) afternoon.

Meanwhile, the police have issued a red alert across the country to re-arrest former OC Shah Alam.

It is learned that the Uttara Purba Police Station OC Shah Alam was arrested in a case related to the anti-discrimination student movement. The process of handing him over to the court was underway on the afternoon of January 9. On the morning of January 9, Shah Alam escaped from the OC's room of the Uttara Purba Police Station.

Allegations were made that Shah Alam, the accused in the murder case, was arrested and kept in the OC's room instead of being kept in the jail. He was able to escape due to the negligence of the police member. After that, the army, RAB and all the police units started working to catch the absconding OC Shah Alam. However, he could not be caught until the afternoon of January 21 (Tuesday).

When asked whether the OC had been found, the DMP Commissioner said, "We had caught the former OC from Kushtia. After his escape, the question arose that the police released him. We did not catch him to release him. If we had released him, there was no need to catch him from Kushtia. The police could have released him there. The fact is that the police members went to show some sympathy. He was kept in a police officer's room instead of being put in jail. He might not have escaped if he had been in jail. He was kept in the charge of a sub-inspector. He might have become careless there, and in the meantime, the former OC escaped.

The commissioner said, we are trying to catch him. However, I think he may not be in this country anymore; he may have fled to India or somewhere else.

Earlier, DMP Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that a murder case was filed against Shah Alam on September 2 in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement. He was arrested in that case on January 8. On Thursday, the process of handing him over to the court was going on. At that time, he escaped by strategizing.

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on duty was suspended in this incident due to negligence of duty. In the same incident, OC Mohibullah, who was in charge of the concerned police station, was withdrawn and attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters.

Present at the event were Mirza Mehedi Tamal, president of the newly elected committee of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB), Umar Faruk Al Hadi, vice-president of the newly elected executive committee, MM Badshah, general secretary, Niaz Ahmed Labu, joint secretary, Aminul Islam, finance secretary, Sajjad Mahmud Khan, office secretary, Wasim Siddiqui, publicity and publication secretary, Nihal Hasnain, sports and cultural secretary, Rakibul Islam Manik, training and information technology secretary, Jasim Uddin, law and welfare secretary, Mahmudul Hasan, international secretary, Habibullah Mizan, executive members Zia Khan, Imran Rahman and Mohammad Zakaria.
