A terrible fire broke out in Rohingya camp No. 26 Mochni in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. A child was killed in the fire, according to camp administration sources, and two people are missing.
The fire broke out in the camp's G-2 block around 11 pm on Thursday (January 16). Later, 4 units of the fire service and Rohingya residents tried for about an hour to bring the fire under control, but more than a hundred houses were burnt down.
Md. Ayash, a boatman at Rohingya camp No. 26, said, "Suddenly, flames were seen rising near the market at night, and the fire spread instantly."
Although the extent of the damage was not immediately known, the camp administration, law enforcement agencies and volunteers are working together in the fire-affected area as part of the emergency response activities.
Assistant Camp In-charge (Senior Assistant Secretary) of Camp-26 Mostaq Ahmed said, "The fire is now largely under control. The child who died while sleeping is estimated to be 5-6 years old. He said that the cause of the fire is being investigated."
On December 24, a fire broke out in the 1W Rohingya camp in Ukhia, killing more than 600 houses and killing two people, including a child.
