5 sentenced to death in Zahid murder case in Khulna

A court has sentenced 5 people to death in the controversial Zahid murder case in Khalishpur, Khulna city. At the same time, they have been fined Tk. 1 lakh each.

Judge Md. Jewel Rana of the Khulna Public Safety Offences Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict on Monday (October 28) afternoon.

In addition, the court has acquitted 7 accused in the case.

The court's high-ranking bench assistant Mohammad Sayedul Haque Shahin confirmed the verdict.

The accused sentenced to death are Md. Ansar Faraji, Noshu Faraji, Riaz, Nadim and Jabbar.

According to the case report, Jabed, the eldest son of Sabbir Hossain, a resident of Khalishpur Housing Street area, had a previous dispute with some miscreants in the area. On December 13, 2016, he left his house for Chitrali Bazar. On the way, when he reached in front of a rice shop owned by Jahangir at Bangabashi Mor, the terrorists who had been waiting for him attacked him with sharp weapons. He was seriously injured in the incident. Upon learning of the attack, Jabed's two brothers Md. Sumon and Zahid reached the spot. At that time, the  accused Abbas Ansari and Jabbar grabbed Jabed's younger brother Md. Sumon and the terrorists started beating his elder brother Zahid indiscriminately. Later, when Zahid kept screaming, the locals arrived at the spot and the terrorists fled. Later, the locals rescued them and took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment, where the doctor declared Zahid dead.
