Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque made President of Bangla Academy

Essayist, researcher, literary critic and social analyst Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the President of Bangla Academy for the next three years. Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque is replacing Selina Hossain at the Academy.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on Thursday (October 24).

The notification stated that according to the Bangla Academy Act, intellectual, renowned essayist and researcher Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the President of Bangla Academy for a period of three years from the date of assuming office subject to conditions.

The condition was mentioned that the duties and other functions of the President will be regulated as per the ‘Bangla Academy Act, 2013’.

Last year, Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque said in a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of his birthday that the youth now want new leadership. There is no discipline between Awami League-BNP in Bangladesh and Congress-BJP in India. Democracy has now been taken to electoral system all over the world. This needs change now. New leadership, new political parties are needed now.

84-year-old Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque was born on September 30, 1940 in Pakundia, Kishoreganj. He has taught in the Bangla department of Dhaka University for four decades. He is the convener of the State Language Bangla Raksha Committee, which is vocal in ensuring the use of Bangla language at all levels.

He is particularly known for his neutral political thoughts and theories. His works are rich in homeland thoughts and political thoughts. He expressed his views on national and international events with a progressive mind. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1981.
