Dhaka: A powerful hurricane named Rafael has hit Cuba. As a result, the country's power supply has been completely cut off.

The report said that on Wednesday (November 6), the hurricane was located 65 kilometers away from the Cuban capital Havana. At that time, its wind speed was 185 kilometers per hour. The hurricane was moving northwest at a speed of 22 kilometers.

The weather forecast said that the impact of Hurricane Rafael could cause "life-threatening storm surges", strong winds, and flash flooding which could inundate the western part of the island nation.

Before reaching Cuba, Hurricane Rafael caused heavy rain in the Cayman Islands and Jamaica on Tuesday.

Cuba has been preparing for the hurricane all day on Wednesday (November 6). Various infrastructures have been evacuated from the seashore due to the threat of tidal waves and flash floods.

In addition, numerous flights were canceled in the capital Havana and Varadero. Educational institutions were closed. As part of the precautionary measures, several thousand residents were evacuated from the western part of the island nation.

It is worth noting that another powerful hurricane hit the country two weeks ago. Due to its impact, there was a severe power outage in Cuba. In addition, six residents lost their lives.
